Aman ("Aman", "we", "us") operates a community-safety mapping application that combines licensed registry data, public government data, and community reports into one map. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Aman, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information you provide directly: first and last name, username, email address, and password. Your password is never stored in plain text — it is hashed with bcrypt before it touches our database, and we cannot see or recover it.

Location information: a home city/state (and the coordinates we geocode from it) that you set in your profile, and — only while you have the map open and your browser's location permission granted — your live GPS position, used to center the map and localize alerts. We do not track your location when you are not using the map.

Content you submit: community incident reports, alert categories, and any messages you send to our AI assistant, Amanix.

Usage information: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) generated automatically by using a web application.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above to operate the map and its layers; center the map and localize crime, registry, missing-person, and emergency alerts to your area or radius; let you submit and manage community reports; send account-related email (password resets, security notices); respond to support requests; and maintain, secure, and improve the service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.

3. Third-Party Data Sources We Display

Aman's map layers are sourced from a mix of licensed vendors and public government and nonprofit data. We do not create, verify, or fabricate any of the records shown — we display what these sources publish, refreshed on a regular cycle:

• Sex offender registry — from a licensed registry-data vendor (when configured for your deployment) or, when no such source is configured, a direct link to the official government registry search. See Section 8 below — this data carries special legal restrictions on use.
• Crime data — official state and municipal open-data portals (e.g. state open-data NIBRS datasets, municipal police open-data feeds).
• Missing persons / AMBER-style alerts — NCMEC, NamUs, the National Weather Service, and Interpol Yellow Notices.
• Local and world news — public news feeds and the GDELT open news index.
• Emergency declarations — FEMA's public OpenFEMA feed.
• Earthquakes — the USGS public earthquake feed.
• Geocoding (turning an address or place name into map coordinates) — OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service.

We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of data published by these third parties. Where a layer states an official source, that source is always the authoritative record — Aman is a map of it, not a replacement for it.

4. Amanix (AI Assistant) and Translation

Messages you send to Amanix are processed either by an on-device model running in our server infrastructure, or — only if your deployment operator has configured it — a third-party hosted model or your own self-hosted model endpoint. Chat content is used solely to generate a response and is not sold or used to train third-party advertising models. When you change the page language, the visible text is sent to a translation provider to render the page in that language; translated results may be cached to avoid repeat requests.

5. Cookies and Sessions

Aman uses a session cookie to keep you signed in and a small local-storage flag to remember your light/dark theme preference. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your profile; doing so permanently removes your account, your incident reports, your alert categories, and your notifications. This action cannot be undone. Server logs are retained for a limited operational period for security and troubleshooting purposes.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You can review and update your account information from your profile at any time, and delete your account whenever you choose. If you are a California resident, you have rights under California law to know what personal information we hold about you, to request its deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights; residents of other states may have similar rights under their own state's law. To make a request, contact us using the information in Section 11.

8. Special Notice: Sex Offender Registry Data

Registry information shown on the map is public record, provided for community-safety purposes only. It is not a background check or consumer report and must not be used as the sole basis for any housing, employment, credit, insurance, or other adverse decision about any person. Using this information to harass, threaten, stalk, or unlawfully discriminate against a registered person is illegal under federal and/or state law (for example, Conn. Gen. Stat. § 54-258a in Connecticut; most other states have equivalent statutes) and can carry civil or criminal penalties. Aman does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currentness of this data — always verify through the official government registry search linked in the app before acting on it.

9. Children's Privacy

Aman is not directed to, and does not knowingly collect personal information from, children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections and bcrypt password hashing — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to This Policy and Contact

We may update this policy from time to time; the effective date at the top will change, and if a revision is material, you will be asked to accept it again before continuing to use Aman. Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to privacy@aman.app.
